HOW TIMESHARE WORKS

To many who do not understand it, the timeshare concept makes very little sense, this article will clear all that up and show you how sensible and affordable the concept actually is, especially if you live outside of Africa.

To put it in a nutshell, when a family takes a holiday they go to a resort and spend a good deal of money and when they come home all they have is - MEMORIES. Memories are good but the money is spent. With timeshare you own that same holiday experience, ongoing, EVERY YEAR because you own the holiday unit for a specific week in the year. And to make it even sweeter you're not limited to the same resort or the same week every year, in fact, with timeshare, you own a little slice of the whole world!

Most weeks of timeshare can be purchased IN PERPETUITY. So, after looking around and becoming familiar with where you would like to own, a week can be purchased. Obviously the season you buy in, the quality of resort you buy into, and the size of the unit you choose, have a direct bearing on the price you pay.

There are three seasons in timeshare:

RED
- High demand
WHITE
- Out of season
BLUE
- Low season

Once you have purchased a week of timeshare you can either : USE IT - RENT IT OUT or SPACEBANK IT WITH RCI to exchange for another resort. If you want to exchange a week internationally, it is advisable to buy RED time.

Usually you can swop "Like for Like", except for Instant Time (30 days before departure for local exchanges and 90 days for international exchanges) - in this Instant Time period you can swop "Anything for Anything" subject, of course, to availability; you can even upgrade from a smaller unit to a larger one and a standard resort to a higher quality resort. This facility works extremely well for people who have no ties to particular time frames, such as retired people who can travel at the drop of a hat and without too much planning.

Most people, especially families with school-going children are restricted to travel in holiday times, so they would need to buy in a good quality resort if they want to swop their week for a similar week of equal quality, elsewhere.

Apart from the once-off purchase price and transfer costs involved, there is an annual levy/maintenance cost.

South African timeshare provides the cheaper alternative to other timeshare, for one reason only - the price!

In South Africa we have THREE resort gradings :

GOLD CROWN - The Best

RID - Resort of International Distinction (the next best and still excellent quality)

STANDARD - Equivalent to Three Star accommodation

Due to the favourable exchange rate against our South African Rand it makes pretty good sense, if you live outside of South Africa, to BUY HERE and EXCHANGE THERE. If you reside outside South Africa you are in the enviable position that you can buy for the LEAST and exchange for the MOST: in fact the purchaser needs never come to South Africa (we hope this won't be the case) - the week/s can just basically be exchanged every year for a resort of their choice, for so very little cash outlay timeshare elevates the average holiday experience to an adventure.

Should you choose to buy South African timeshare and sometimes use it, then your holiday experiences can vary as much as you like, a trip into the bush for a wonderful wildlife safari maybe somewhere up near the Kruger Park, even a houseboat on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe which is now timeshare, or see the picturesque Kwa Zulu Natal coast where all year is Summer or visit the beautiful Cape with Table Mountain, glorious beaches, excellent scenery and of course the Winelands; then of course we have the Drakensberg mountains for those who are a little more adventurous and enjoy the walking trails, rock painting and just the mere beauty of the landscape.
